Young Instrumentalist Competition
Staff and members of Queensland Symphony Orchestra are pleased to announce the winner of the Young Instrumentalist Competition for 2010. First prize of a performance opportunity with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at the QPAC Concert Hall on the March 17 was awarded to Eddy Chen (Brisbane State High School) playing Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor 1st mvt.
Runner-up for the evening was Alex Miller (Toowoomba Grammar School) who played the Jacob Concerto for Horn and Strings mvt 1, and second runner-up on the evening was Catherina Lee (Trinity Lutheran College) who performed the 1st mvt of the Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto No. 5.
The standard of performances was extremely high and the judging panel of CEO Patrick Pickett, Assistant Conductor, Sarah-Grace Williams (who will conduct on the 17th of March), NFA / Anthony Camden Foundation patron Lilly Camden, and Richard Wenn (Director of Artistic Planning) had an extremely tough job.
QSO were pleased to award two loan violins after the announcement of the winners. The Primavera violin donated by the NFA /Anthony Camden Foundation was awarded to Sally Law (Somerville House), and the 'Brennan Keats' violin donated by the National Instrument Bank (A.E. Smith maker) was awarded to our winner Eddy Chen.
