Schumann Piano Concerto
Schumann Symphony No.1 Spring
Chief Conductor Johannes Fritzsch concludes our anniversary tribute to Zwickau's most famous son with his effervescent Symphony No.1, titled Spring. From the opening bars this symphony bursts full of life and celebrates the joys of Spring. Schumann regarded the premiere of his Symphony No.1 as one of the most important events of his artistic life. Based on a poem by Boettgher, the Spring Symphony depicts daffodils poking their little heads through the snow seeking warm sunshine in the meadows. Leading German pianist Bernd Glemser gives an anniversary performance of the great piano concerto, a work of art that has remained fresh and immediate after all these years-a concerto bathed in sunshine, exceptionally beautiful from beginning to end.
